Introduction to Bluegrass Guitar

If you have never played bluegrass guitar, but have always wanted to, this is for you! Whether you are completely new to bluegrass, playing guitar, or both, we’ve got you covered.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Own or can borrow a guitar
  • Interest in learning about bluegrass guitar
  • No guitar experience is required!

Bluegrass Lead & Harmony Singing

Fiddle Tunes for Bluegrass Jams

Most bluegrass jams feature singing songs, but fiddle tunes (on any instrument) can be so satisfying, especially when done well. We’ll share our most helpful advice for being able to play fiddle tunes with confidence in a bluegrass jam.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Can find basic melody on your instrument (e.g., can pick out “Mary had a little lamb”)
  • Can play basic backup on your instrument (boom-chick, chops, vamping, rolling, etc)

Build & Manage Your Song Charts

This session is for advanced beginner and intermediate guitar pickers.

  • Have a guitar and can tune it
  • Knowledge of basic chords; ability to change between G, C, D chords at jam song tempo
  • Interest in jamming and playing bluegrass/Americana music with others

She’s involved in the Triangle bluegrass community, including the PineCone Youth Jam program, and loves helping students improve in ability and confidence through the joy of making music together.

Bluegrass Banjo

Tuition: $75, includes lunch and optional jam 2-4pm

Location: Nashville, NC at private residence

Each student must submit proof of COVID vaccination. Instructions are provided upon registration.

This session is for advanced beginner and intermediate banjo pickers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Can tune your banjo
  • Can play G, C, and D chords
  • Can use capo(s) (or spikes)
