Private Lessons

Are you interested in growing your bluegrass skills?  Are there areas where you’d like to build confidence or skill?  Do you want to work on a few skills before signing up for class, camp, or workshop?  Consider signing up for one or more private lessons. We charge $50 for an hour lesson, and there’s no minimum commitment; you can just have a single lesson, or a regular schedule, or anything in between.

Lessons can be just for you alone, or we can with a group of your choosing. For example, maybe you and a buddy want to work on harmony together. Or you have a family of pickers and want to learn together.

We will work with you to tailor a lesson to help you focus on specific skills that you’d like to build, such as:

  • Getting started on a new bluegrass instrument
    • Banjo
    • Bass
    • Dobro
    • Fiddle
    • Guitar
    • Mandolin
  • Understanding the bluegrass genre and how to learn the songs
  • How to play your instrument bluegrass style
  • Kicking off a song with confidence
  • Finding melody and taking a break on the fly
  • Song leading
  • Getting prepared for bluegrass camp
  • Transposing to a different key
  • How to learn new songs
  • Common chord progressions
  • Work on a particular song
  • Finding your singing key
  • Lead singing
  • Harmony singing
  • How to “fake” a solo
  • Building and managing song charts, including OnSong and SongbookPro
  • You tell us what you want!
