  • Own or can borrow a bass (loaners may be available for this workshop)
  • Interest in learning about bluegrass bass
  • No bass experience is required!

Fiddle Tunes for Bluegrass Jams

  • Can find basic melody on your instrument (e.g., can pick out “Mary had a little lamb”)
  • Can play basic backup on your instrument (boom-chick, chops, vamping, rolling, etc)

  • Two different fiddle tunes (TBA) will be covered in depth; others will also be reviewed and played

Bluegrass Banjo

Location: Nashville, NC at private residence

This session is for advanced beginner and intermediate banjo pickers.

Location: Community United Church of Christ, Raleigh, NC (corner of Wade & Dixie)

Instructors: Lynda Dawson, assisted by Susan West and Leslie Dare

This session is for advanced beginner and intermediate guitar pickers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Have a guitar and can tune it
  • Knowledge of basic chords; ability to change between G, C, D chords at jam song tempo
  • Interest in jamming and playing bluegrass/Americana music with others

Lynda Dawson is a much admired flat picker and songwriter for her work with the Kickin Grass Band and Lynda & Pattie duo. She’s involved in the Triangle bluegrass community, including the PineCone Youth Jam program, and loves helping students improve in ability and confidence through the joy of making music together.
